FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Which models are available at Lesebrille.de
We have over 1000 models of reading glasses, sunglasses and reading glasses with blue light filters.
How can I determine the right power for my reading glasses?
Especially when you buy your first pair of reading glasses, the question arises: What power do I need? With our diopter calculator for reading glasses, you can easily calculate the required reading power yourself.
Can I also have the reading glasses individually glazed?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer individual glazing. However, you can order Klammeraffe Premium reading glasses as a frame only and have them individually glazed by your trusted optician.
You can order the premium collection of single-vision reading glasses from us. You will receive models made from Grilamid® TR90 as well as lenses in optician quality, which are glazed directly by our partner in Munich.
If you are still unsure, you can also order just the frame first and add the glazing at a later date.
You can find all available models from the Premium collection here.
What is a reading aid?
There are various types of devices to help with reading if your own eyes are not good enough. These include classic magnifying glasses, but also reading rulers that enlarge individual lines of text and digital systems that scan text and display it enlarged on a monitor or even read it aloud.
The most common type of reading aid, however, are reading glasses, or more precisely prefabricated reading glasses, whose lenses are not specially adapted to the wearer’s visual acuity, but in which both lenses have the same, prefabricated diopter values and which help with so-called presbyopia to be able to read texts clearly again at the usual reading distance.
What are prefabricated reading glasses?
n contrast to spectacles that opticians customize to your individual needs, ready-made reading glasses are already prefabricated. Ready-made reading glasses therefore always have the same power in both eyes and are usually available from 1.0 diopters to 3.5 diopters in increments of 0.5 diopters.
How much do good reading glasses cost?
Even if inexpensive reading glasses are often available for just a few euros and are certainly more than enough for a quick glance at a petrol receipt or a till receipt, you should do yourself a favor and buy higher quality reading glasses for longer, relaxed reading.
If you get on well with ready-made reading glasses, you can expect significantly better lenses for models from around 15 euros, which usually have less distortion in the peripheral areas and some also have integrated filters or anti-reflective coatings. If you have problems reading despite wearing good ready-made reading glasses (e.g. headaches, burning eyes or rapid fatigue), you should have customized reading glasses made by an optician. Cheap offers for reading glasses with individually fitted lenses are often available from as little as 20-30 euros. However, if you want a special brand frame, lighter lenses or additional anti-reflective coatings, customized reading glasses can cost several hundred euros.
Are ready-made reading glasses enough for me?
If you have not used glasses before, you will probably be fine with ready-made reading glasses. Nevertheless, it is advisable to have an eye test carried out by an ophthalmologist or optician to check whether presbyopia occurs to the same extent in both eyes and, of course, to determine what power your reading glasses should have.
Are cheap glasses bad for the eyes?
It’s handy to have a pair of reading glasses to hand in all sorts of places, one in the car, one at the workbench, one on the armchair in the living room. And, of course, you sometimes reach for inexpensive glasses. These inexpensive reading glasses are a good choice, especially when it comes to briefly reading a note or a receipt – better a cheap pair of reading glasses than none at all.
However, the very cheap models for just a few euros should not necessarily be used permanently, as the low price is sometimes at the expense of quality. But even here, if you don’t have any problems with them, you can’t do anything wrong.
Even if it is often claimed otherwise: The wrong glasses have no lasting effect on the health of your eyes. This is also confirmed by the optics professionals at Zeiss:
https://www.zeiss.de/vision-care/besser-sehen/gesundheit-vorsorge/kann-die-falsche-brille-oder-schlechtes-licht-den-augen-schaden.html
When do I need reading glasses?
From around the age of 40, most people realize that they can no longer read small print well. In the beginning, it helps to increase the distance to the text a little, i.e. simply stretch your arm a little more so that the letters can be seen clearly again. But at the latest when “the arm is no longer long enough” or perhaps even headaches occur when reading, you should do something good for yourself and your eyes and buy your first pair of reading glasses.
Are reading glasses from an optician better?
Especially if you need different lenses in both eyes or if you already needed everyday glasses before reading glasses, you should have your reading glasses custom-made by an optician. Even if you read a lot at work or as a hobby, or work in small parts, customized reading glasses are a sensible investment.
Why do I need reading glasses?
Almost everyone develops presbyopia sooner or later. The lens in the eye loses its elasticity over the years, so it can no longer be deformed flexibly enough to image close objects sharply on the retina. Reading glasses help the eye here, the muscles don’t have to pull so hard on the lens and reading becomes relaxed again.
What is better with more expensive reading glasses?
High-quality reading glasses are characterized not only by particularly careful workmanship, but also by first-class lenses. These provide a clear, sharp image – even in the peripheral areas – and are easy on the eyes when reading or doing fine work. Many models are also made from high-quality materials such as acetate or titanium, which ensure high wearing comfort, durability and an elegant look. The lenses are often also scratch-resistant and equipped with practical extras, such as UV protection or special filters against blue light from screens and smartphones.

Returns policy
Returns policy for reading glasses at Lesebrille.de
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase from us. Should you decide to return a pair of reading glasses, please follow the guidelines below to make the process as easy and hassle-free as possible for you:
1. condition of the items: We accept the return of reading glasses as long as they are unused. Wearing the glasses to try them on is of course fine and does not prevent a return.
2. stickers and labels: Please make sure that all original stickers and labels are still attached to the reading glasses. These are essential for the reversal.
3. case: If a case was included with your reading glasses, this must also be returned.
4. packaging: Please sort each pair of glasses carefully into the correct packaging bag. This helps us to process your return quickly and efficiently.
Processing fee: We understand that mistakes can happen. However, we reserve the right to charge a processing fee of 5 euros if the above returns guidelines are not adhered to. This fee is used to cover the costs of processing non-compliant returns.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
